A new workshop on interactive sound, 11am-5pm on 26 February and 4, 11, 18 March at SPACE in Hackney, London.
This course will show you how to interface sound, visuals and real-wold physical movements and gestures to create interactive multimedia installations, tools for live music performance or just new ways to make and interact with sound. You can "pick 'n' mix" from the different days or sign up for all four at a discounted rate.
Day 1 (26 Feb) will introduce the interactive music environment Max/MSP.
Day 2 (4 Mar) will introduce the programming language and environment Processing.
Day 3 (11 Mar) will cover hardware sensors along with the microcontroller environment Arduino.
Day 4 (18 Mar) will demonstrate how these tools can be made to communicate to create a sonic, visual interactive system that responds to real-world movements and gestures.
See learning.codasign for the course material.
Requirements: You will need a laptop though we can provide a limited number of machines upon request. Day 4 will require an Arduino and sensors.
Registration for all 4 days is now closed.
Or sign up for individual days that interest you...
Day 1: Introduction to Max/MSP 6
Sunday 26th February, 11am-5pm
Level: Beginner
Requirements: Computers with Max 6 will be provided, or attendees can bring their own.
An introduction to the interactive music environment Max/MSP. Attendees will learn how to create customisable interactive music programs to generate soundscapes, record new material or sequence MIDI notes in time.
Registration for Day 1 is now closed.
Day 2: (11am-5pm): An Introduction to Processing
Sunday 4th March, 11am-5pm
Level: Beginner
Requirements: Computers with Processing installed will be provided, or attendees can bring their own.
An introduction to the “electronic sketchbook” language Processing. Attendees will learn how to use basic software techniques to create simple graphical interactive programs, manipulating graphics, images and video.
Registration for Day 2 is now closed.
Day 3: Sensors for Sound Control - an introduction to Arduino for music
Sunday 11th March, 11am-5pm
Level: Beginner
Requirements: Computers with the Arduino environment will be provided, or attendees can bring their own. All hardware and components will be provided.
An introduction to the Arduino platform and connecting sensors that detect sound, light and pressure. Registration includes Arduino board and sensors to take home.
Registration for Day 3 is now closed.
Day 4: Interfacing Max, Processing and Arduino
Sunday 18th March, 11am-5pm
Level: Some experience with Max, Processing & Arduino; the previous sessions will have taught you everything you need to know.
Requirements: Computers will be provided, or attendees can bring their own. Arduinos can be borrowed upon request.
Attendees will learn how to make Max/MSP, Processing and Arduino communicate - allowing them to link graphics to sound generations and physical inputs via sensors. Please bring your own Arduino board and sensors, email info [at] codasign.com for assistance if you don't have one. If you register for Day 3 you will receive all the required hardware.
Getting There
All sessions will be at SPACE, 129-131 Mare Street, London, E8 3RH.
Cancellation Policy
Full refund if registration is cancelled over a week before the workshop, excluding Day 3. Two weeks notice of cancellation is required for a refund of a Day 3 registration. If all 4 days are booked, a refund will be made only if cancellation is over a week from the start of the first workshop.
